From Boardroom to Baby: A Book for Modern-Day Stay-at-Home Moms
By: Melissa Harper | Date: January 18 2018
I’m Kristin Helms, the mom behind Tribe Magazine. I created Tribe as a platform for mom writers/authors/ photographers from all over the world to share their views about motherhood– to create emotions and relatability through words and photos that truly represent this season of raising humans.
It’s never been my intention or goal to be in the spotlight of this platform because I wanted Tribe to feel like a community. A safe place for moms to come together in motherhood, share sentiments, and take solace that we’re all in this motherhood gig, together. Tribe Magazine is for you, written by you, and that’s how it will journey forward.
That being said, I’m stealing the spotlight for a moment, because I want to share a project I’ve been working on with you– my new book, third baby, passion project: From Boardroom to Baby: A Roadmap for Career Women Transitioning to Stay-at-Home Moms.
I knew I wanted to write this book when I left my corporate marketing job in 2013 to “stay home” with my daughter. Spellbound in love with my baby and motherhood, but also questioning my identity and self-worth without a career– I found the transition from career to home surprisingly complicated.
In my new book, I tackle all the hard stuff around staying home– the stigmas and stereotypes, the need to replace external reinforcements (raises and praise) with internal confidence, the inevitable changes in relationships with loved ones, and finding yourself again, in motherhood and beyond.
My number one piece of advice for all new stay-at-home moms is to find an outlet outside of “Mom”– something that fills your cup back up so you can turn around and continue providing the best for your family. My outlet is Tribe Magazine– born from the comfort of my own home during my children’s nap times, late weekday nights, and before the sun came up on the weekends.
Thank you for allowing me to share this with you, and thank you for reading Tribe Magazine.
